Day 2 - To Nap or Not to Nap?

The question of the day was "To Nap or Not to Nap?"

Anyone who really knows me will understand how important rest/reading time is to me.  It is one solid hour in which I get a little peace and quiet.  But today, I really wanted to plant my new mums, so out we go after lunch.  Of course, it would have been too simple to just plant the mums.  Noooo, I instead had to trim the bushes (talk about an arm workout!), attempt to weed the flower beds, and then to try to dig holes into the designated area of clay & rocks.  All of this was necessary to plant my mums.  Needless to say, the girls kept themselves occupied by washing the Barbie Jeep, catching bugs, and using an insane amount of bug spray, just in case...

Rest time ended up being outside reading time, which was cute at first, until Sophie could take the bugs no longer.  She and Naomi supposedly had rest time on the couches inside after that.  Upon finishing the job of planting the mums, Magic School Bus began our science lesson while I took a shower.  After a little more research of Venus, we headed out to church.  It was during this car ride that I realized the "no nap" idea was not a good one.  About ten minutes from church, we realized that we had forgotten the gummy snacks for Sophie's class that evening.  Oh. my. goodness... You would have thought her baby doll had died.  She bawled the rest of the way there.  Hopefully, we'll remember them next week.

All of this to say, rest time is very important in our little homeschool family.  There are field trip days and errand days when it just can't happen, but for the most part, we take some time each day to rest.  Chloe usually reads or draws, while Naomi looks at books or sometimes sleeps depending on how tired she is.  Sophie, obviously, still needs her sleep.  She's allowed to look at books, but is usually out cold within 15 minutes.

Last year, I wrote on Rest Time, which included a few tips and ideas for anyone who might be interested.  Tomorrow, there will be a nap for this mama!

  1. Thank you for pulling the curtains back on your day and allowing us a glimpse into the life of our precious granddaughters (maybe "precious" was not the word used last night on route to church). Yep, there are days Papa would love to curl up on the couch with a good book and rest! "He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will REST is the shadow of the Almighty." Enjoy your moments in His shadow!
